Maquetaurie Guayaba with Pitirre

Maquetaurie Guayaba is the protector and the guardian of the dwelling place of the dead.

The Pitirre (Gray Kingbird) is a bird that aggressively defends its territory against intruders, including mammals and much larger birds such as caracaras and Red-Tailed Hawks. This has led to the adoption of the Pitirre as a nationalist symbol (a sort of David vs. Goliath figure) in Puerto Rico and for the Puerto Rican independence movement.
